On this blog entry, I am going to make a comparison between two bookstores in SM Mall of Asia. The National Bookstore and the Fully-Booked. I will be rating the books in a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest and 1 being the lowest in terms of space, comfortability and ambiance, availability of books, and service. These four factors are what I chose primarily because this are the factors which I deemed most important in a bookstore. I am by no means an expert, and I'm writing this just to serve as guide for you guys. So, off with National Bookstore first!
SPACE- 5/5
The National Bookstore in MOA is big and spacious. Just right, because it is a one-stop shop for students and professionals. NBS divided its place into different sections which is neat, since it allows easy maneuvering towards the store. It makes buyers find their way easily. There are sections for children, for school supplies, for academic books, and for non-academic books. Indeed, NBS MOA is one of the most spacious bookstore that I've ever been to. However, it's nothing compared to the Fully-Booked Taguig.
COMFORTABILITY AND AMBIANCE- 3/5
Usually when I visit bookstores and when I'm really in a browsing mode, I prefer quiet and calming stores. That's why National Bookstore MOA couldn't be my choice in this. There are far too many people speaking which makes the place quite noisy for my tastes. The place is also not carpeted so I couldn't sit on the ground. It makes me feel uncomfortable. Maybe because it just wasn't for me or maybe because the store wasn't designed to suit that particular need.
AVAILABILITY OF BOOKS- 4/5
There are many books available in NBS MOA. In fairness to the store, it is complete conpared to other nbs branches that I've been. What's nicer is that these were categorized among different subjects such as religion, fiction, non-fiction, and academic. The academic books were impressive, and I have to give this one to NBS MOA.
SERVICE- 3.5/5
The employees of NBS MOA appear stressed out, maybe it is due to the number of employees asking for help. However, that's not an excuse for me. The last time I asked an employee about a particular book, she did not even bother searching for it. She just said that maybe it was out of stock, and that I should just come back later.
